Welcome

As you already know my name is Amber Norris. I received a Master of Social Work with a concentration in Mental Health and Trauma from the University of Denver in 2021. I also attended Pacific Lutheran University '20 and Pierce College '18 for my under graduate degrees.

You are likely here to understand a bit about myself, about my approach to therapy and how I can help. Well, in this short space I'll try to conceptualize my role. When a disturbing event occurs, whether that is childhood trauma or present day trauma, it can negatively impact your life.  It can alter the way you view the world and prevent you from progressing in life i.e. having sustainable relationships or increase an insecure sense of self. Trauma can be store in your unconscious mind and as a result you may not recognize how it is showing up for you. Often protective mechanisms can even prevent you from being able to identify why you feel “down” or what exactly needs to change in your life. That's where I come in.

My background is trauma processing, I am an informed eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) clinician. EMDR does a great job at reframing the way the trauma has been stored in your unconscious and perhaps change the way you use your protective mechanisms. I find that when someone comes to my door, they are often looking for support on coping with childhood traumas, relational stress, work stress, or maybe some self loathing. Often the answers you are seeking, start and end with you. All in all, our work together, will be to find the answers that you are seeking.

EXPERIENCE

I have been in practice for approximately two years. Throughout those two years, I have served many populations and have found that I best serve those that are 18 years and older.  I have worked in shelters serving the young adult population. I have worked in a Middle School serving children that are experiencing low income, housing insecurities, and food insecurities. I have also worked in a community mental health center with individuals that live with Schizophrenia, Bipolar, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder among many others. Community mental health was where I found my passion for therapy and what drove me to private practice.
